The coastal city of Napier in Hawke’s Bay

~6 min drive from Bluewater

Napier

A sun-drenched coastal city with Art Deco heritage and a gateway to Hawke’s Bay wine country.

Napier is a sun-drenched coastal city, rebuilt after the 1931 earthquake and now best known for its Art Deco heritage and its position as the gateway to Hawke’s Bay wine country.

Much of the flat land the city sits on, including Ahuriri, was reclaimed when the earthquake lifted the seabed. From Bluewater the city centre is six to eight minutes by car, and it works well as a relaxed base for exploring the wider region.
