Cape Kidnappers holds one of the world’s largest mainland colonies of Australasian gannets. The viewing season runs roughly October to April, and the cape is about forty minutes from Ahuriri plus the walk or tour out to the colony.
You can walk the 19-kilometre return beach route from Clifton at low tide, or take a guided overland tour. Check tide times and cliff-hazard advice before setting out on the beach.
